LDR Industries

LDR was a wholesaler of plumbing supplies, mostly from China through offices in Taiwan.

I wore a lot of hats in a dozen years, but the bulk of the work was in digital photography, packaging artwork, database/data manipulation, sell sheets, catalogs, labeling and website.

​

Their web presence was tiny--hardware guys. I did several iterations of the LDR.com website, but I do not consider myself a web designer, my HTML skills are pretty bare bones, and we weren't given any access to commercial sales via internet. Very 90s. That's where my "web skills" are stuck, too.

The 'art department' was myself and John Ofiara. Several different marketing managers, no art director.

I most enjoyed the packaging art and photography. But early on I was shooting plumbing parts on my desk top with incandescent bulbs, and we were struggling to meet 150 dpi...heh. We started out pretty rough, but as our cameras and lighting got better, so did the photos.

The packaging started out really monochromatic; shower hardware tends to lean hard on blues and water patterns and pastels. But again, as time passed we introduced the buyers to different aesthetics, and a few of them actually stuck.

​

I'm sole designer on most of the packaging art that appears here. The catalog work is generally shared effort.
